London three piece Indian Queens have just released their debut album ‘God Is A Woman’ via Cool Thing Records. The album is described by lead singer Jennifer O’Neill as a late night record - to play at the end of the party when it all slows down. The band took a moment to talk to us about the album - track by track.

Bubblewrap
Trying to figure out the changes and questions we are asking in the current environment argument. Will we be fighting for air to breath in the near future? Feeling hopeless to help or ignorant to science, we are all wrapped in plastic. The songs starts space allowing the vocals to be the main focus and slowly building the song to a final soaring chorus with strings ending on the lyrics "i'll be there to hold your hand, when the wall falls"

Pretty Little Thing
A memory from being very young of someone special and in a place where you are safe and warm and oblivious to anything else.

God Is A Woman
This track was written around the time there was a lot in the news about groups of faiths protesting against their children learning about same sex relationships in schools and women still being scared to speak up about what they wanted their children to learn about. It felt like one step forward and two steps back and it angered me. I was also saddened. I just remember thinking if this religion stuff is true i hope when they get to heaven, god is a woman or gay and wouldn't it be ironic. It's quite a dark humoured track touching on real and scary subjects.

Some Kinda Blue
This song took a long time to write, we had so many versions before we found the one we knew was right. At difficult times in relationships when all you need to do is sit down and listen to the track you love. This chorus effortlessly lifts into an uplifting heartfelt lyric. Baby why don't we go, listen to some 'Kinda Blue' just me and you. And it will all be ok because you have each other.

Wanderlust
The urge to follow your heart and dreams. To be sung along to at the top of your voice. A summer song one of the most upbeat and feel good tracks. Uplifting lyrics especially the line 'we can work it'

Us Against The World
One of the earliest track written to make the album, and probably the catalyst of this album. the first track we wrote where we found the sound of the record and Indian Queens. Simplistic drum and bass beats with soaring reverb guitars. Big choruses and an element of electronic sounds.
Finding someone that makes you feel you can take on the world with.

I Got So Much I Wanna Say
Simple guitar and bass harmonies to create space. Inspired by Fugees and 90's hip hop. Bringing in modern reverby guitar lines and forsetto vocals and a three part harmony chorus. A slow grower and always one that sounds great live

I Get No Rest
A dark rainy night in East London. Hip hop beats and bass. Subtely political lyrics and sinister harmony's

Concrete Lips
One of the edgier tracks on the record with trippy lyrics.

Warning Sign
It came around the chorus haunting harmonies, and then we adjusted the guitar and bass sounds to fit that feel. "Be gentle when I fall in love" a love story where you don't see the warning signs.

You Came Over Late
The biggest struggle to write and finish but one of the most rewarding when we got it. It needed to be dark and moody to suit the lyrics, that late night drink that lasts all night. Talking through the night with someone special about your biggest fears and doubts. Big lead guitar lift at the end like euphoria.

Shoot For Sexy
The dancier track on the album. Written late at night and we wrote the music and had a few beers and ending up all dancing to the original rough demo we recorded. The lyrics are suggestive but open to interpretation.

Walk
A simple loop, menotimous and a pounding drum. Having a companion to walk with and share memories and wander the world
