Firemaid - 'Changes'

Firemaid shares an anthem for the apocalypse in alternative indie rock banger ‘Changes’, the first single release from her upcoming debut EP.

Firemaid
is the project of Kaila Baće whose sweet folk pop vocal soars out of idiosyncratic indie rock production that spans multiple genres. ‘Changes’ opens with crunchy and fumy guitar and percussive rhythms driving the track forwards with a hint of funk, before Firemaid smoothly transitions between Western leaning production and smouldering cinematic tones.

On the ideas behind the track Firemaid explains, ”Before the pandemic, I could watch zombie apocalypse shows and fantasise about what role I would play in the end of the world. Would I be a leader and organise the survivors around me? Would I be weak and fall ill immediately? Would I manipulate a man into loving me for protection? Would I discover a secret skill (maybe I'm excellent with a crossbow)? When I wrote ‘Changes’ these were the thoughts and images going through my mind. But now everything is different, and I'm no longer interested in spending time fantasising about the end of the world when it seems too close to our current reality.

It's a song about learning about yourself in a time of drastic shifts. It's an anthem for lost wishes, but still full of hope. It's celebratory, with a tinge of dread.... It's about unrest and resolution, but maybe not in a linear way. I hope it brings listeners strength and an epic feeling of togetherness in this time of isolation. Thank you for listening.”

A scintillating track that shows off an intriguing artist with a crystal clear vision.
