Let us introduce you to Brighton based glam-rock powerhouse five piece SLANT, who have just released their debut track ‘Haircut’ - a social commentary of breaking out of the mould. They took a moment to talk to us about their riot grrrl energy and why they demand your attention.

So, firstly who are you? Does the band's name hold a certain meaning?
We’re a female-fronted power house drawing glam-rock out the ether and merging it with a riot grrrl energy. The name slant was inspired by the title of a 90s riot grrrl zine.

How did you meet?
We met through all playing in the Brighton music scene and shortly after becoming friends, decided it made sense to form a band together as we all shared the same musical influences. We were bored of seeing the stage dominated by all-male bands and wanted to get in on it.

You are based right next to the seaside in Brighton, what are your favorite places to do there? Where is the best place to go for music? And where is the best place for chips?
On a Thursday night you can expect to find us boogying in East Street Tap or dancing at our favourite 80s night on Saturday at The Green Door Store. If you’re looking for live music you’ll find something at the Hope & Ruin or Prince Albert. For a meal out, our go to restaurant is Purezza for the world’s best (vegan) pizza.

You consider yourselves self-confessed attention seekers, what does that mean? Why should we pay attention to your music?
We let loose on stage, so you’re going to want to be watching.

Who would you say are your key musical influences as a band?
The glam-rock era - Bowie & Bolan. We love Blondie and The Runaways who break the mould. And we take modern influences from Angel Olsen, Wolf Alice and Sharon Van Etten

Your debut track ‘Haircut’ is out now, can you tell us what it is about?
Haircut was inspired by Katy getting out of the small town mindset and cutting her hair to break free from the social mould she had felt restricted by. It’s an anthem for empowerment and doing what you want!
