Phoebe Bridgers – 'I See You'
Phoebe Bridgers releases ‘I See You’, the third single taken from her upcoming album ‘Punisher’ (June 19th).
‘I See You’ is frustrating but in a good way. With urgent drumbeats building the backdrop to a soft, gentle melody, it seems to capture the feeling of running to catch a train only to see it drive off without you. Phoebe’s delicate vocals are met by gorgeous harmonies in a soaring chorus that feels so intense it might well be screaming to the wind. As you would expect from the Phoebe Bridgers brand of extremely emotive lyricism, ‘I See You’ knocks the air out of your lungs and creates a pit in your stomach that has you listening over and over and over again.
Speaking about the song, Phoebe reveals: “It’s about my breakup with my drummer. We dated for a few years, made music every day, and were extremely co-dependent. We became like family to each other, so our breakup was extremely tough. But if this tells you anything about our relationship, we wrote this song together, just like everything else.”
