Inspired #137- Lost In Japan

To celebrate the release of their new single, ‘Ego’ Ontario outfit Lost In Japan speak to us about some of the things that inspire them.

Who are you top three musical inspirations and why?
Arkells, we have been listening to them almost from day one, we have seen them grow a bigger and bigger community and how they interact with that community. It's really inspiring to see another Ontario band really breaking though and making such a big impact.

Cage The Elephant, what is there not to love about Cage. I think we all really appreciate the lyrics and storytelling that comes out of their music. We always try to adopt a similar approach when writing songs.

The Strokes, pure rock and roll. Even though we have probably listened to ever Strokes song 1000 times, every time we listen we still get amped up. The raw energy their music bringings is something we always try to incorporate in our music.

Is there a certain film that inspires you and why?
Step Brothers is our all time favourite, it has inspired us to become the songbirds of our generation. One day if we are lucky we may just play the Catalina Wine mixer.

What city do you find the most inspiring and why?
Toronto has to be the most inspiring place we have been. The music scene is so vast and more often than not everyone is very welcoming. With the abundance of very cool bars and bands it's definitely a hotspot for us!

Who is the most inspiring person to you and why?
For the band, Kyle Ashborne has been the most inspiring person. We first met Kyle when we recorded our first EP at the Sugar Shack in London, ON. He engineered and produced the EP and really helped us hone in on our sound. We have worked with him on almost every song since then and he continues to inspire us.

What were your inspirations when writing the track?
We were actually on tour when we first started writing Ego. We just saw a change in our on and off stage personas and it got the conversation going about why we're really doing shows. The song is about finding out you don’t really know who you are. That everything can change in a second and learning to overcome that.

How would you like to inspire people?
Lost In Japan has always strived to make people happy. To get people up and dancing and singing along. We hope to bring people together and to connect with one another.
