Children of the State - 'Big Sur'

Oh how indie rock outfit Children of the State long to be beside the seaside with their new single ‘Big sur’.

Presiding from Doncaster and Bolsover, this five-piece long for the days of vintage rock and roll, taking heavy influence from the 50s onwards while throwing in some electronica for good measure. Their unique style hasn’t gone unnoticed as the quintet have taken off at a resounding pace in a little over two years since the release of their debut EP ‘Kill Your Darlings’.

‘Big Sur’ is the beginning of a very big year for the five-piece, but the new single certainly didn’t come about with its struggles. The band took action, upping sticks to Liverpool and teaming up with The Coral’s Ian Skelly to produce a track that brings the surf sound of the 1960’s into the present day.

‘Big Sur’ was born out of “grey days on an industrial estate in Doncaster” and longing to be at the beach, taking the doo-wop sound of The Beach Boys and twisting it to their distinct sound with fizzing guitars and a distorted organ. Children of the State brilliantly capture nostalgia in ‘Big Sur’ and adapt to suit their modern rock styling, a talent that will certainly stand in good stead as one to watch on the UK indie scene.

‘Big Sur’, the new single from Children of the State is available now on all major streaming platforms.
