Ellie Bleach – 'He Bought Me Nikes'
London based singer songwriter Ellie Bleach goes in for the kill on self-released new single ‘He Bought Me Nikes’.
With the vocal power of an old soul starlet, Ellie Bleach saunters along a nonchalant bassline and draws you into her world of sound. Setting itself apart from her previous releases, ‘He Bought Me Nikes’ lives in a softly vintage soundscape of harpsichord and mellotron melodies that create a Lana-esque air of melodrama while choral layers give it a cinematic touch that plays right into Ellie’s intriguingly sharp and brilliantly witty lyricism - “Charisma of a cult leader, entitled as an aristocrat, persistent as a cold caller, overbearing mother, distant Dad.”
Talking about the track, Ellie explains: “’He Bought Me Nikes’ is about a type of guy that I’ve encountered time and time again with a God complex that leaves them totally aloof and detached from anyone that tries to get close to them. I was obsessed with the Jonestown Massacre and the heaven’s gate cult. I kept thinking, what kind of person is so magnetic, so attractive they can lure people to their own deaths? Then I realised, I know plenty of guys like that, and have fallen for one or two.”
