Djiboutian-French, Montreal-based Shay Lia shares sunshine-soaked new single ‘Love Me Love Me Not’.

Shay Lia combines the smooth rhythms and sensuality of afrobeat with the infectious qualities of pop, creating a track that feels like a summer love affair. ‘Love Me Love Me Not’ reminisces on youthful innocence, the excitements and disappointments of new love and melancholy soaked endings. Its swaying melodies and Shay’s soft, soulful vocals dress the track in warm colours. “If this song had a scent, it would be coconut oil mixed with vanilla,” Shay says. “I wanted it to feel intimate and soft.  I was definitely exploratory with this song - I wanted my listeners to feel how sensuality, pleasure and melancholy can blend into the same song and share the experience of being friend zoned from a woman’s perspective. It happens to us too and we should not be afraid to share how it can make us feel! It can be empowering to be vulnerable.”

‘Love Me Love Me Not’ is undeniably a summer song. It’s a “close your eyes and imagine you’re at the beach” kind of track, you know the kind that fills you with a deep sense of peace. It also loops perfectly, so you can put it on repeat for 7 hours straight.
