Inspired #146 - KTG
Irish indie-pop talent KTG has just released her new single ‘Matches’ - a vibrant track with big guitar sounds backed up by an infectious drum beat. She took a moment to talk to us about the inspiration behind the track and her music.
Who are your top three musical inspirations?
This is a tough question because I try to get something from all the music I hear - typical music teacher answer isn't it? But my top three are Taylor Swift (her old style) for the quality of her lyrics and the stories she tells; another would be Ryan Tedder for the same reasons and also for One Republic and their style and finally, I think Lewis Capaldi is a huge inspiration to me just for the vocal range and the singing ability - I would love to get to that ability one day!
Is there a certain film that inspires you?
I'm terrible for watching films but yet I can watch a whole series back to back? I'm a walking contradiction haha! But when I go through a writer's block I always turn to old musicals such as Singing In The Rain and The Wizard of Oz and also I watch Nashville and tends to get the inspiration flowing again!
What city do you find the most inspiring?
I have to be bias and say Dublin, Salthill in Galway and anywhere in Donegal. But outside of the country I will forever be married to Rome - I love the architecture and the spirit of the city and I CANNOT wait to travel back again!
Who is the most inspiring person to you?
My Mam (cue the eye rolls!). My mother is amazing and works so hard to better mine and my siblings lives. I hope that I am even half as selfless as her and have her work ethic. She always puts us first and every time I come up with a crazy idea she is 100% behind me and I am so blessed to have her as a mother.
What were your inspirations when writing the track?
The going out culture in Ireland. I don't know what it is about putting on that outfit you have been planning all week, doing your makeup (or whatever you wear when you're out) but you suddenly become empowered and confident. I wish we could bottle that 'going out' culture and keep it for the days we feel insecure. I also chose this song to release during this time because I think the world needs a boppy song and a song to just forget everything and dance for 4 minutes!
How would you like to inspire people?
I would love to inspire people to be fair and kind to all people.
