Lupin – 'May'
Hippo Campus vocalist Jake Luppen announces new solo venture Lupin alongside stunning debut single ‘May’.
Bold and unafraid, ‘May’ arrives with a bang. Driven by big, bright, funk-laden rhythms and crashing drums, the track resembles a fever dream of 80s nostalgia. This new and evolved sound is an organic progression from Jake’s indie pop origins as Lupin turns his well-rounded pop sensibilities into radioactive anthems with sharp edges and sprinkles them with a dose of confessional lyricism. “I had been clinging to the past in my relationship at the time,” he explains. “grappling with the realization that our young expectations of what our future should look like might not actually work out. Or rather shouldn’t work out. This song focuses on coming to terms with that.”
Lupin is a brand-new beginning for Jake and the perfect opportunity to really hone in on his songwriting skills. Talking about his upcoming debut record, he says: “With this record I wanted to get to the point, and say how things were, as opposed to dancing around them.” ‘May’ is a fabulous introduction to this new project that is already sure to turn heads and show Jake Luppen in a whole new light.
