Skout - 'Move'

Brooklyn based duo Skout add an upbeat indie pop twist to self-doubt and depressive thinking on current single, ‘Move’.

Minimal percussive textures open Skout’s ‘Move’ with a gentle buoyancy, soon interjected with a spiky yet melodic fingerstyle guitar melody, setting the track off to a thrilling start. Singer Laura Valk’s blissful vocal channels a familiarity in its catchy indie folk pop melody, calling to mind the likes of Maggie Rogers, MUNA and HAIM.

Despite the melancholy in the lyrical theme, Valk’s and band mate Connor Gladney keep things light and rhythmic, leaving their listen feeling warm and uplifted through the track’s compelling, retro-infused sound. Skout bring ‘Move’ to a gorgeous crescendo with lots of splashes of colour and chaos in its sound, making sure that optimism is still in reach in the lyrics, “Time hurts as much as it heals… And I know I just need to move”.

And if you listen closely enough, you can hear the vocals layer up in various parts of the song, offering subtle harmonies with lovely juxtaposing tones, which sees the track gain beautiful and rousing momentum as it develops.

Let’s get one thing straight, Skout have got clout.
