The Dawdler - 'Lava Lamp'

The Dawdler (John Edgar) shares heartfelt new single ‘Lava Lamp’ – a tribute to his friend, Ewan, who took his own life in 2015.

“If I had known it was the last time, I might have said something much more like ‘You were my dream.’” With its hard-hitting lyricism and atmospheric soundscape, ‘Lava Lamp’ feels like falling in slow motion. John’s vocals move slowly, stretching over gentle guitar-led melody lines, and have you firmly hooked on his every word. While deeply personal and absolutely heart-breaking, there is a subtle but hopeful undertone shining through its loving memory.

Talking about ‘Lava Lamp’, John says: “'For me, the song is about my friend, Ewan. But, more broadly it’s about the last time you ever see someone. You’ve got no idea it’s the last time and only realise after they’re gone. It’s mad how you can pinpoint that moment and go over and over it. What could I have said or done to alter events? Did I miss signals? I guess it’s just part of the grief process. But, grief in itself is so vast. Every person’s grief is unique to them.”
