Kev Olden - 'Ache'
Toronto-based, Irish artist Kev Olden shares a blistering cut of emotionally charged indie folk on new single, ‘Ache’
Following in the footsteps of ‘Hush’ and ‘Time We Have Left’, ‘Ache’ is the third track to be unveiled from Kev Olden’s upcoming debut EP, ‘Time We Have Left’. Where its predecessors are relatively minimal and slow burning, ‘Ache’ shifts Olden’s sound a few gears into livelier territory, seeing the track driven by woozy, emotive guitars and an uptempo percussive rhythm that keeps its listener on their toes.
But it would be wrong to say the lively nature of the track stems from joy; ‘Ache’ is a gripping and tension-filled listen. It’s that feeling of running out of time, of bitterly accepting you’ve reached the end of the road. It’s the pain of everything you thought was real unravelling in front of your eyes, it’s the heartbreak of being deceived by an untrustworthy lover.
Olden’s brooding and atmospheric vocal is the perfect vessel to carry such a loaded and relatable theme. And the bleakness of the track’s theme just gets more beautiful as the song culminates in a sense of acceptance shown through a cathartic and transformative roar of thrashing drums, jabbing guitars and evocative vocal wails. Electrifying stuff.
