Introducing #198 - Kay Greyson

Let us introduce you to the UK’s most exciting rising stars - Kay Greyson who has just released feel-good anthem and third release on Soul Kitchen Recordings - ‘Over and Over’. Recorded by up and coming producer Johnny Newman, ‘Over and Over’ is the sound of an artist who has very much found their unique, trademark voice. Full of swagger and driven by an infectious brass hook and an undeniably anthemic chorus.

Kay took a moment to talk us about the track and her music.

Hey there Kay, how are you? So your new track ‘Over and Over’ is out now - can you tell us what it is about?
'Over and Over' is about doing things you might not like, over and over to get to where you want to be. It’s about not choosing the easy way and celebrating when hard work pays off.

Where are you from and what are your favorite things to do there?
I’m from Newcastle Upon Tyne in the North of England. My favourite thing to do there is hang out with my friends, I’ve been friends with the same group of people since I was a teenager so they know me better than anyone. When we’re all together anything can happen and that’s what I enjoy the most.

What are the key influences when it comes to your music?
Songwriters inspire me the most. I grew up on Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, Joni Mitchell and many more amazing story tellers and they make me want to write more and tell stories from my life with the same eloquence and poetic style.

How would you describe your sound to someone who has never listened to your music before?
I would say my sound is fun, it’s diverse and unique. I see every song I make like a conversation between me and the listener. I always try to get something across to the person on the other end of the speaker so I think that makes my music relatable and deeply personal.

Now the track is out there, what next for you?
Next up is more music. I want to keep giving out content showing people more of my versatility. I am planning on releasing an EP soon, but before that I’m going to be featured in a documentary on BBC 4, about Alan Hull of Lindisfarne. There will be a track coming out after that too! So exciting times!
