Inspired #351 - Tilde

Last month, Swedish singer Tilde released her new album ‘Pink Moon’ featuring her intoxicating, Western-tinged current single ‘Say That Our Love’. Confidently straddling the ground between contemporary pop and vintage soul, ‘Pink Moon’ is a timeless record that broods and shines in equal measure. Tilde took a moment to talk to us about some of her current inspirations.

Who are your top three musical inspirations and why?
Firstly I’d say Nina Simone. For many reasons. Besides that she is a musical genius, her voice is out-of -this-world as is her piano playing and delivery - she has been such an inspiration for me as an artist and as a woman in terms of what a female artist is “allowed” to be.

In a time where often women, in the public eye and back then even more so, were expected to be pleasant, accommodative, always polite, sweet and/ or sexy. She was so much more. She could be angry, moody and a real person (even though now we know that it was also due to mental illness) but the fact that she was all that was so very liberating to see when I first discovered her music in my late teens and really broadened my eyes.

Bob Dylan.

For his songwriting and poetry. How his words just unfold in the most perfect, rhythmical, sense without ever feeling pretentious. The humor, the sincerity, the gravity and always with a dimension that makes you feel that this must have been touched by some sort of greater power.

Carole King

I love Carole King’s songwriting and she is an amazing singer and pianist. One of my biggest influences!

Is there a certain film that inspires you and why?
Yes, quite a few and maybe too many to mention but definitely films such as  Grand Blue, Call Me by Your Name and Jackie Brown

What city do you find the most inspiring and why?
Ohh, that’s difficult. It probably has more to do with my own state of mind rather than the city but I’d say London or Copenhagen.

Who is the most inspiring person to you and why?
Many for different reasons and throughout history but at this time Greta Thunberg. I mean - at such a young age to be so committed, brave and have really helped to put the climate crisis on the agenda. Wow.

What were your inspirations when writing the Pink Moon album?
I was listening to a lot of film scores while I wrote it so yes, film scores and films in general. I don’t know if it was because of the pandemic, the fact that not much was going on and that everything just slowed down but I was listening a lot to ballads and slow songs. I don’t think I put on like an upbeat/party song for a long time actually. So yes, a lot of films, ballads and sad songs.

How would you like to inspire people?

The best gift I think would be if people would feel inspired to be creative listening to my music. Just as I’ve been inspired by other creatives work.
