DOPICO - 'Too Much TV'

Independent Singer and Songwriter DOPICO kicks off the year with the release of first music video ‘Too Much TV’ taken from her powerhouse debut album.

Not just content with making her of own brand of lusciously addictive alt-pop, New York singer-songwriter DOPICO is also pursuing a Masters at Columbia University to become a mental health therapist and advocate. How she finds the time though is anyone’s guess, especially one takes into consideration her new single ‘Too Much TV’, and more specifically its accompanying music video.

Interested in the idea of people being forced to become something they’re not, either socially or in the case of the video, professionally, ‘Too Much TV’ succeeds in feeling both fun and a little tongue in cheek, all the while still having something important message to spread.

While the track itself is built around bluesy guitars and bass, bolstered by occasional waves of brass, it’s really DOPICO’s vocal delivery which steals the show. Bold, ballsy and utterly her own, it adds an extra level of salience to the track’s overarching narrative of staying true to oneself.

Indeed, it’s this narrative which the video plays on also, its own story being that of DOPICO attempting to film her own music video, only for her own vision and style to be changed and manipulated by those she’s working with.

Though harbouring a serious message, ‘Too Much TV’ succeeds in putting this across while also being a whole lot of fun, both as a listener, but clearly for those who were involved, and though it’s easy-going effervescent energy is certainly addictive, it’s important to take away the real message here: be yourself.
