Inspired #200 - Somebody's Child
Rising Irish indie pop sensation Somebody’s Child has given us another taster of his second EP with new single ‘The Lover’ - a track that places the listener in the head of a man in an existential crisis. He took a moment to talk to us about the inspirations behind his music.
Who are your top three musical inspirations?
Alex Turner, Trent Reznor, David Bowie at the moment. The reason I say at the moment is that it's always changing. Their personalities are all quite different, but each are geniuses in their own right.
Is there a certain film that inspires you?
Denis Villeneuve's films are very inspiring visually. David Lynch's films Sonically. And just because I've watched it recently, La Haine, is very inspiring thematically.
What city do you find the most inspiring?
London or Paris. And Dublin. I romanticise them all and owe part of my life to each of them.
Who is the most inspiring person to you?
I guess those close to you are the most inspiring. I'd have to say my parents.
What were your inspirations when writing your new single?
I wanted to write something that vented my anger towards the state of the world at the moment. Something that highlighted our inability to feel genuine emotion and inspire original thought.
How would you like to inspire people?
Through music. I hope to make people really feel something, and be able to relate to me. I hope it makes real, genuine connections, and inspires positive change.
