Lazyrevs - 'Tidal Wave'

Sligo, Ireland two-piece Lazyrevs untether themselves from the anchors of loss in emotive indie electronic single, ‘Tidal Wave.’

Written, recorded and produced by Lazyrevs (Tom O’Connor & Nadine Keog) and mastered by by Stuart Hawkes (Amy Winehouse, Ed Sheeran, Stormzy) at Metropolis Studios, London, ’Tidal Wave’ is the first track taken from their upcoming EP which will be released later this year. The track opens with buoyant electronics, brooding keys and Keogh’s compelling vocal that draws to mind the aching loveliness of Elena Tonra.

With that in mind, it comes as no surprise that the duo cite Daughter as one of their influences, but you can also hear the emotion of Oh Wonder, the quirky cinematic appeal of Aurora , and the brooding indie pop of London Grammar within the beautiful bones of the song.

Thematically, the song is about accepting a loss in your life and learning how to let go, ‘Gotta let it go now, I’ve been hanging on too long.’ As Lazyrevs find themselves slowly bobbing in a sea of despair, exhausted from treading water, there’s catharsis to be found as they realise the person who can save them is actually themselves. And that realisation hits like a tidal wave. And release comes at once; the restless waves of emotion turn into bubbles of hope kissing at the shore’s feet, before the track ends as it begins on a striking ethereal vocals that fall somewhere between Kate Bush, Sigur Ros and Bjork.

’Tidal Wave’ is an affecting and aesthetically pleasing song that throbs for restless hearts; a thrilling first look into an EP expected to be full of promise.
