Jade bird - 'Open up the heavens'
Jade Bird releases stunning sixties style new single ‘Open up the heavens’.
Recently relocating to Nashville, the British artist has firmly planted her feet in home of iconic country music, having made friends with the likes of Sherly Crowe and Brandi Carlile, she has been warmly welcomed into the community. Jade Bird has been working hard in the the legendary RCA studios with grammy award winning produce Dave Cobb (Jason Isbel/Lady Gaga). She teased us with ‘Houdini’ and ‘Headstart’ at the end of 2020, giving us signs of a new album on the horizon (which we wait ever-so-patiently for more details on).
‘Open up the heavens’ leads in with driven 60s vibe electric guitars, huge vocal melodies and Fleetwood Mac style tambourines. The drum groove keeps our head bouncing along and dreaming of one day clapping along whilst drinking warm cider on a summer afternoon. Jade has said this is her favourite song of the upcoming album.
"Open up the heavens’ was written and recorded two days before I had to fly home from recording in Nashville. I’d heard stories about the last song you write for a record being the best, so I was searching for that in the vocal booth of RCA that evening. Halfway into the riff Dave (Cobb) pops his head in and says 'you should really do something with that. So I did. I sent the song to him 2 hours later and before I knew it, everyone was brought back in and we were tracking my favourite song on the record.”
Known for her great story telling style ‘Open up the heavens’ certainly delivers her clever mixture of narrative writing intertwined with more symbolic ideas, opening and ending on the reflective and hard-hitting lyric ‘Do you really know what it feels like, waking up alone in the middle of the middle of the night’.
Jade bird’s latest release was Annie Mac’s hottest record in the world on Radio 1, just adding to her huge list of accreditations such as BBC sounds of 2018 listing, performances on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and touring with the likes of Tom Odell and First Aid Kit.
