Brighton-based powerhouse YONAKA have come out of the fire that was 2020 in the form of new releases ‘Seize The Power’ and brand new ‘Ordinary’. Songstress Theresa is more energetic and passionate than ever!
New self-produced single ‘Ordinary’ is far from ordinary but a soaring and euphoric song about honesty and self-reflection. “When you listen to this song I want you to be completely honest with yourself and ask if this is where you are meant to be; are you being yourself or are you scared? Are you living for someone else and forgetting yourself? Are you watching life go by like watching the TV screen? Do you want to wake up old and wonder what you did with your life? This is your time to jump!”
YONAKA is one of my favourite and energising live acts, with Theresa being the perfect example of a leading woman that lifts the spirits of her entire band up a notch. Despite their loud and alternative rock sound, every single the band releases has an edge of commercial pop to it which makes their sound accessible in its own way. There is no denying nor avoiding the uprise of YONAKA and their ever evolving creations. ‘Ordinary’ is a combination of soaring alt rock and contemporary rap parts that blend surprisingly well together. YONAKA are a lot of things, and it might not be your thing, but they are definitely not ordinary.
