girl in red - 'Serotonin'
girl in red shares new indie-art-pop banger ‘Serotonin’ produced by Finneas, the first single taken from her highly anticipated debut album!
Listening to someone’s music and connecting with it is one thing, but having the artist blow your mind with the live interpretation of their own music is an indescribable feeling… I’ve experienced this with few artists myself, and one of them is girl in red. Since I first saw Marie Ulven perform in 2018, I have been waiting for the day she’d announce her debut album and that day has finally arrived!
To introduce the incredibly anticipated era, the Norwegian rising-star presents her new single ‘Seratonin’ produced by the one and only Grammy-winning producer Finneas. The track is a concoction of influences which ultimately highlight her signature raw lyricism while pushing her own boundaries to bring something unexpected to her fans.
The track opens with a soaring guitar riff that builds up to distorted synth noises accompanying Marie’s syncopated vocal melodies. In the song, she opens up about her impulsive and intrusive thoughts. These ultimately cause her to have conflicting voices in her head which is probably why she finishes the chorus with very catchy gibberish reflecting what’s going on in her head. As she explains, her new music is “an attempt to learn what it’s like to be human; to deal with the scariest parts of myself; to live with the pain of knowing i’m only flesh and bones”.
With more music to come soon, we can expect honest, uncensored, and intimate bangers to be on our way. Having connected with a new generation of young listeners and expanding her horizons to hit people beyond this demographic, girl in red certainly has the alternative pop world at her feet and we are living for it.
