MarthaGunn - 'Giving In'
MarthaGunn release brand new single ‘Giving In’ alongside the announcement of their debut album.
Often described as ‘For fans of Fleetwood Mac and Mystery Jets’, MarthaGunn beautifully marry folk songwriting and harmonies with punch drums, gritty guitars and catchy choruses, and their latest offering 'Giving In’ is no exception. This is the first single taken from their highly anticipated debut album ‘Something Good Will Happen’ due out September 17th on Communion Records, home to the likes of Bears Den, Lucy Rose and Dan Croll.
Brighton’s MarthaGunn are Abi Woodman, Max Hunter, Humphrey Luck, Ally Mackay and Frankie Sparrowhawk and the five piece have been performing together for the last seven years, churning out hit after hit across that time building up to this monumentous moment. The track marks a new chapter for the band who look to have a big year ahead with the announcement of UK Tour with tickets on sale now.
‘Giving In’ is a raw and honest track about not wanting to appear weak in front of others and overcoming this feeling with opening lyrics ‘Trying to keep myself together, No one needs to know, If I’m falling into pieces, I’m too proud to let it show’ perfectly capturing this message. The chorus hits as it opens up into an 80’s vibe lo-fi pop sound that the band have made a part of their signature sound.
Talking about the meaning behind the single, Abi Woodman says: “Throughout my life, like most people, I’ve had my fair share of ups and downs, emotionally and mentally. This song came about after we had been away on tour for about a month. I had been quite ill and had to miss a few shows. I felt like I had let everyone down. When I got back off tour, I just felt really low. The one person I turn to when I’m feeling low, is my mum. I sometimes feel guilty for baring all my worries upon her, afraid to be a burden. This song is about trying to hide how you feel from others. I like to come across as a strong woman, and I am, so in those moments of fragility, my biggest fear is people seeing me as weak. I tend to hide away when I feel like that. I eventually told my mum how I was feeling and the feeling disappeared within a few days. It’s so important to share those feelings with someone and talk about them.”
Having already gained support from the likes of Radio 1 & Radio X, we look forward to hearing lots from MarthaGunn as they release more singles in the buildup too ‘Something Good Will Happen’.
