Singer-songwriter Amanda Frances has recently releases her new single ‘cute’ - an emotionally fueled ballad that deals with the ugly side of a relationship. She took a moment to talk to us about the inspirations behind her music.

Who are your top three musical inspirations and why?
LANY // production
Julia Michaels // lyrical goals
Orion Carloto (poetry) // emotional vulnerability

Is there a certain film that inspires you and why?
Call Me By Your Name. A friend of mine with exceptional taste in films, books, and all things creative recommended this to me as a must-watch last year. It’s pure art. From breathtaking visuals to risqué moments in the storytelling to moments of emotional connectivity, everything about it is absolutely stunning. What’s more, its memorable. It’s a personal goal of mine to create art of any kind on that level.

What city do you find the most inspiring and why?
I’ve spent a ton of time in Nashville over the years songwriting, and I absolutely adore that city. It’s a pretty special thing to feel like a whole city is somehow connected to the thing you love most as a musician and songwriter.

Who is the most inspiring person to you and why?
Anytime I need a bit of extra inspiration I go and listen to Sarah Aaron’s episode on the “And The Writer Is…” podcast for the umpteenth time. Her drive and determination even in the face of dealing with personal hardships is unparalleled. Serious respect for that girl.

What were your inspirations when writing your new track?
All of my songs come from personal experiences. ‘cute’ was written after a particularly brutal break up and period of transition in my life where I was learning a lot about what love is and isn’t.

How would you like to inspire people?
If I can inspire even one person to take a chance and put their art out into the world, that’s everything for me. I find we often get so caught up in the response — the perceived success or failure after releasing — that we forget that creation in itself is something to be applauded. I think there’s magic in anyone who dares to create.
