Let us introduce you to London’s Split the Dealer who recently released his new single ‘Dreamstate’ and took a moment to talk us through his music.

Hey guys, how are you? Tell us about Split the Dealer. What makes you tick?

I'm good thankyou! I hope you're having a wicked week so far! Ahh this is an easy one, I have tourrettes, so I guess.. thats what makes me tick haha.

Your track ‘Dreamstate’ is out now - can you tell us what it is about?

For sure! At the start of lockdown, I saw a load of artists talking about how many songs they had written within the first week, then I saw all these success stories coming through, and I just compared everything I was doing, with them. It completely flipped my day, and I just felt bad. I think its a common problem we have, comparing our day to day lives with other peoples highlights online. So I wrote dreamstate, which ironically kicked off lots of inspiration for other songs aha.

How did you start making music?

I didn't have much money growing up, but I always had a draw towards music, so when I was about 15, my parents got me a second hand guitar for about £30, and I just never put it down, I used to play it non stop, and when my cousin decided to get married, I said I'd write them a song for the wedding. Although, that song was so so shit and we won't talk about that hahaha.

What are they key influences when it comes to your sound?

When I started releasing as Split The Dealer, I wanted to stay true to the music I listen to, or brought up on, which was a lot of rock and hip hop. My music doesn't fully go down those roots, but I think it's blended with alternative pop.

How would you describe your music to someone who’s never listened to it before?

Mostly energetic, honest and hopefully varied aha.

Finally, what can we expect from you over the rest of the year?

I'm currently editing a video for Dreamstate that will be dropping soon, but also I have a joint headline in London on the 25th of September with Deva st. John, which is going to be a big night of built up energy and hype! I've missed played live so much, so it's going to be LOUUD.

I have a few more singles up my sleeves I'd like to drop too!
