Introducing #143 - Lachlan

Let us introduce you to Edinburgh solo-artist Lachlan, who having cut his teeth in a number of bands over the years, has now struck solo. We caught up with him to dig a little deeper into his music.

How would you describe your sound to someone who has never listened to you before?

If John Mayer, Billy Joel and The Wombats all had some kind of a musical love child, it would probably end up sounding somewhere close to my sound.

You’ve just released your recent single Relay. Can you tell us a bit about it?

Relay is a tale of a relationship soured. The imagery of being rushed to the next person just as quick as being settled with the prior person. The seemingly endless inner battle with your emotions and the events that have transpired, for better or worse. It’s a modern-day tale of heartbreak and anguish.

You’ve spent your fair share of time in bands. What made you decide to go solo?

The first band I was in was one I fronted. After playing with Lost in Vancouver and Vandal Palace (which I had an amazing time in), I felt I was missing the emotional outlet I personally got through writing and performing my own music. It’s also nice to have some more creative control and the ability to work to my own schedule.

Where are you from? Where do you like to go for adventures?

Originally I’m from Aberdeen, but I now live in Edinburgh. Anywhere ith a lot of trees or greenery. I’ve always lived in cities but I feel much more at home in the countryside.

What are your key musical influences?

There’s quite a few. From a young age it was Billy Joel, The Killers, Ray Lamontagne, Jake Bugg. In my adult life I’ve discovered and taken influence from Benjamin Francis Leftwich, The Wombats, The Strokes and so on.

After the final track’s released, what can we expect fromyou as the year progresses?

Hopefully I’ll get back to the stages once more. I think that’s what everyone is hoping for. A couple more tunes under my belt and maybe a live session or two!
