Dexter - 'Blue Skies'
London-based newest bedroom RnB wonder child dexter shares vibey new single ‘Blue Skies’ to celebrate the arrival of the summer.
For about a week or two now, Londoners have had the first taste of the summer season. With temperatures rising and the sun being out pretty much every day, it is no surprise people are updating their summer playlists and looking for the perfect soundtrack for the incredibly anticipated season to come. After a rocky year (to say the least), people are looking for lively and catchy tunes to brighten the mood and there’s no better song for that than 18 y/o dexter’s new single ‘Blue Skies’.
Hip-hop influenced beats, vibrant guitar riffs, keyboard melodies that will stay in your head for ages, and incredibly smooth and gentle vocals are the elements that make ‘Blue Skies’ the perfect summer opening single. That goes without mentioning the poetic and confessional lyrics that allude to the melancholy associated with awaiting for the summer during the colder months.
As Charmaine aka dexter, explains, “Blue Skies was written in one day with my producer Dom Valentino. It was the last day of February, and it was a really cold and grey day. Dom started playing a guitar loop over and over, and it sounded really Summery - so I started thinking about how maybe when it was April and May and the sun and flowers were out, I’d feel happier too, so that's where the lyrics came from. Those are my friends with me in the video - when we shot it we were worried it would be grey, but it was so Sunny.”
The mesmerising and dreamy single sees Charmaine’s sonic palette evolve as she continues to mess around with multiple genres bending the boundaries of bedroom music. Having been championed by Annie Mac and Sian Eleri since the very beginning and now with the support of incubator Common Knowledge (via AWAL), it is clear dexter has an amazing future ahead and we cannot wait to see her blossom into the next big thing. It is very rare to find such exciting natural talent in such a young artist and with just a second hand MacBook and her first vocal mic, dexter has already captured our attention and has proven to be a face to be reckoned with… all while still finishing her A Levels.
