Let us introduce you to London’s newest R&B whizzkid - dexter, who has just shared her new single ‘Blue Skies’. She caused a bit of a stir earlier this year, when she uploaded some tracks that she created on her Iphone - which ended up being picked up by BBC Radio 1 and caught the attention of the likes of Annie Mac and Sian Eleri.

dexter took a moment to talk to us about the inspirations behind her music.

Who are your top three musical inspirations and why?
At this point in time it is Tyler, the Creator , Beabadoobee and Solange. Tyler is just amazing, Bea makes songs that sound like a 2000s teenager film, and Solange is a very good black female inspiration.

Is there a certain film that inspires you and why?
Charlie and The Chocolate Factory is the best film ever, I don’t really know if it inspires me but it makes me like chocolate more. I also love the first Narnia film it makes me want it to be Christmas

What city do you find the most inspiring and why?
London is very inspiring as I have grown up here and live here . Everything from the buildings to the people inspire me a lot

What were your inspirations when writing your new track?
I was inspired by the cold weather outside as it made me want to write about the summertime . The journey to that session made me think about how I really wanted the sky to be blue because it was so grey and cloudy and it made me feel like cheese

How would you like to inspire people?
I hope one day that I could inspire people into realising you can make songs with hardly anything, my first 5 songs were made on GarageBand on my phone and although you can kind of tell they still have done a bit well considering the quality of them so yes I think that’s what I would want people to be inspired by
