Hayden Calnin puts western politics under the microscope on compelling new electro-folk single, ‘Politicians’
‘Politicians’ opens with cinematic cosmic textures, giving a faraway sensation of satellite cameras honing in on planet Earth. There’s a subtle, smoky sophistication to the track as a Calnin’s moody vocal spills accusatory lyrics hitting out at the state of western politics. Sonically, the track is led by a laid-back piano melody, accompanied by fluttering jazzy tones and spacey synth. As the track skitters into its rousing climax, it becomes more jubilant, in true contemporary indie folk fashion, with the use of bellowing brass tones and rousing percussion.
There’s a soulful poppy warmth to the track’s melodies which serves to plant seeds of hope and solidarity as Calnin airs his frustrations and anger about the current political climate. ‘Politicians’ hits home the united message, No matter your political views, there is global frustration and it feels like people are taking more action into their own hands than ever before. We are communicating, we are standing together and we have quite frankly had enough of the sh*t-storm that floods most government bodies around the world.’
