Introducing #172 - Uninvited
Let us introduce you to Scotland’s newest alt rock band - Uninvited - who recently released their debut track ‘Tomboy’ via 7 West Music. Combining a mix of shiny pop and indie - along with heart-on-your sleeve lyrics - with their music they put their LGBTQ+ experiences right in the middle of the male-dominated indie atmosphere. They took a moment to talk to us about their music.
Hey there Uninvited, how are you? So your debut track is finally here - how does it feel to have it out there finally in the world?
Hey! We’re good- hope you’re well! It feels amazing and was a long time coming! We are just buzzing to finally be able to show everyone what we have been working on!
It is called ‘Tomboy’ - can you tell us what the track is about?
Tomboy is about not conforming to gender roles from a young age, it’s a song we feel like a lot of people will be able to relate to!
Where are you based? And what do you do for adventures?
We are based in Glasgow- we love taking little road trips together and the pubs always a good shout!
The band formed after a series of chance meetings on public transport, can you tell us a bit more about that?
Gill and Taylor met at a gig they were playing in 2017- we then met bex through an Instagram group chat and Bex met Fio at the train station! We love our origin story, everything worked out so smoothly!
You are yet to play your first live show, what can we expect from an Uninvited gig?
We have our first live show in August- supporting Dead Pony at King Tuts Summer Nights Festival, we are super excited to be playing at such an iconic venue for our debut gig and are over the moon to be able to say it’s sold out!! You can expect good vibes and even better tunes;)
What are your key influences when it comes to your music?
Our inspiration in music comes from some of our favourite bands and lyrically we write about personal experiences, we think it’s important for everyone to relate and be able to really visualise our songs!
How would you describe your sound to someone who has never listened to your music before?
Someone once compared us to sounding like “If the 1975 and Haim had a baby” we are more than happy with this comparison!!
