This week’s Artist of the Week is Gen-Z singer-songwriter Claire Rosinkranz, who has just released her second EP ‘6 Of A Billion’. Since releasing her breakout hit ‘Backyard Boy’ back in 2020, which dominated TikTok last summer, Claire has accumulated over half a billion streams worldwide and topping the Spotify viral charts. This second EP sees Claire gearing up for a big summer, as it picks up the pop music genre and gives it a big shake. Filled with hummable melodies and big hooks, 2021 is certainly the year to keep your eyes firmly on Rosinkranz. She took a moment to talk to us about how the EP came together.

Hey Claire. How are you? So your EP is out now - how does it feel to have it out there?
EXCITING !!!! I’ve listened to these songs a million times so I’m excited to give them up to everyone else now

It is called ‘6 of a Billion’ - what is the meaning behind that?
The EP name “6 of a billion” was kinda inspired by one of the songs in the EP, “boy in a billion”. but it’s mainly the idea that these are six songs of a billion that I would like to release.

Where was it recorded? Any behind the scenes stories from the creative process that you are happy to share with us?
Well like all of my other songs, it was recorded in my dads home studio that we’ve had since I was born. We just moved though so this project is one of the last projects we got to work on in my childhood home and studiiiooo

What are the key themes and influences on the EP?
This EP came together like my first which is basically me picking and choosing random songs from the billions of things that I’ve written. They’re all from different stages of my life travelling all the way back to last summer

Do you have a favorite lyric on the EP? If so, which one and why?
“2 good souls with a million memories made” - boy in a billion or,  “We’d be too good i’d have something to miss” - fall apart

Music is deeply rooted in your family - what are your earliest memories when it comes to music in your life? Do you feel the connection of music within your family has helped shape how you write your own music?
I don’t know if I would be making music if it weren’t for my fam because to my knowledge they have always been the ones encouraging and sparking my passion for music. All growing up and to this day my dad would play violin on his looper in the living room while my mom would play piano. My dad would also bring me into the studio from an early age to help him with writing and singing for jingles, commercials, tv shows or whatever he was working on

You have been writing songs since the age of eight - what were those early songs about?
The earliest song I remember writing was something about a pond in Paris, on a canoe, surrounded by lily pads lol. I was a very descriptive and imaginative writer haha

Now the EP is out there - what next for you?
After the EP I have a tour planned for November but other than that, I’ll just be working on more music and hopefully eventually an album
