Stockholm based artist Naah ticks all our bedroom pop boxes with new single ‘better than love’ - which is a late night summer anthem in the making. Filled with indie-pop beats and catchy pop melodies, it’s an instant classic for any Spotify playlist. Naah took a moment to talk to us about the inspirations behind her music.

Who are your top three musical inspirations and why?
Right now I would say it’s Blue DeTiger because of her sick guitar-skills, Sylvan Esso because of the lyrics and Girl In Red because of the cool vibe. If I could choose four Charlie XCX would also be on the list, she’s such a pioneer in pop music!

Is there a certain film that inspires you and why?
I’m more into series and I love ‘’The End Of The Fucking Word’’. When I write songs I like to watch something on YouTube on mute to get in the right mood. There’s a perfect video clip from that series that someone edited to Lorde’s song ‘’Hard Feelings’’. I’ve been writing lots of new music while watching it.

What city do you find the most inspiring and why?
There’s a small city in Sweden called Falkenberg that I always write really good music in. It’s located on the west-cost and lays beautifully by the sea. It might sound cliche to choose a place by the ocean but it’s truly inspiring! I would also say Stockholm, it’s my hometown and every street carries its own memory.

Who is the most inspiring person to you and why?
My grandma was a great inspiration for me. She always believed in me and made everything sound possible. Sadly, she passed away last year and I miss her really much. She had a strong, warm personality. On her funeral, for example, she made everyone walk out to ‘’The Show Most Go On’’ by Queen.

What were your inspirations when writing your new track?
I wrote it at a time I was struggling lyrics-wise. I used to write a lot about heartbreaks but then a lot of things happened and it felt quite off to sing about sad love stories. So I wrote this song as a tribute to my friends instead. It was so easy and I honestly don’t know why I haven’t done it before.
They are such a big part of my life and they really deserve it!

How would you like to inspire people?
This is a tricky question to answer cause I often connect inspiring people with good role models and that’s big shoes to fill, but I hope to inspire people with my music. I’ve always found comfort and strength in songs and I would be honoured if I could help someone in the same way with my music.
