Slam Dunk Festival announce Alexisonfire and Rancid as first headliners for 2022
It’s hardly been a fortnight since Slam Dunk 2021 came to a jubilant and incredible close, but the organisers clearly haven’t taken the chance to rest on their laurels. Instead, they’ve stormed back into the limelight with the start of their ‘22 iteration.
What a tease we’ve been presented with. Today, with little warning, the promoters of Slam Dunk decided to release a tantalisingly brief line-up announcement for next year; two big headliners, though with the stages unannounced, and five more hugely exciting names.
The headliners? Well, the heroes over at Slam Dunk have only gone and booked two legendary bands: the fearsomely punkish Rancid and the revered post-hardcore outfit Alexisonfire. The two are set to headline next year on their Slam Dunk debuts (presumably for the Punk in Drublic and Jagermeister stages respectively, though that’s entirely a guess). And if that’s not enough, as Slam Dunk 2022 surprises they’ve got Hot Milk and Meet Me @ The Altar joining them.
Meanwhile, after regretfully (yet understandably) having to pull out of Slam Dunk 2021, and obviously not being able to play the entirely cancelled Slam Dunk 2020, Slam Dunk 2022 is happy to announce the return of a beloved trio of bands — The Used, The Wonder Years and Motion City Soundtrack. All three were dreadfully missed over the past two years and their return heralds a fantastic year indeed!
These seven bands, plus many more that are left to be announced, shall grace the Slam Dunk stages in Leeds and Hatfield next June — and I for one can’t wait!
