Jess Chalker - 'Don't fight it'
London-based musician Jess Chalker delivers cathartic, retro-inspired indie pop on shimmering current single, ‘Don’t fight it’.
Produced by Jess Chalker and Grammy-winning producer Rich Jaques, ‘Don’t fight it’ weaves retro synths through shimmering guitar hooks to create an upbeat and feel-good backdrop to Jess’s brooding, enthralling vocal. ‘Don’t fight it’ is a moody soundtrack to a night-time drive through city’s filled with neon signs, chasing the tiniest slither of the moon. It’s that first freeing gulp of air when you realise that any chaos you might be experiencing doesn’t have to consume you. It’s that first delicious drop of rain after a drought. It’s danceable, addictive and full of emotional depth. It’s dark yet light and euphoric on its chorus. It’s just lovely.
Speaking of the ideas behind the track, Jess explains, 'There's a bittersweetness to Don't fight it that I love... it feels both joyful and sad to me. It was written at a time when I was going through some personal stuff, trying really hard to please everyone, not really knowing where I fit and becoming someone I wasn't. In the end I really surrendered to that feeling of being lost, because acknowledging that made me realise I needed to change where I was going.'
‘Don’t fight it’ is taken from Jess’s debut album, ‘Hemispheres’ due for release 5 November via all streaming services, as well as on limited edition purple vinyl and CD. Pre-order ‘Hemispheres’ here.
