Lycio - 'I Wanna Know'
UK trio Lycio release their dark mystical alt-pop track ‘I Wanna Know’.
With deep euphoric synth sounds to drive the chorus in deep which is filled with enough atmosphere to break the ozone layer. What stands out the most on this track, is the mildly displaced vocals of Genie Mendez - the interesting cracks and melody flow on her voice takes this track to the next level. Giving the single it’s own cinematic tone and she drives the track life as if her life depended on it.
Music can take interesting dark turns, and if this is the future of alt-pop - count us in.
Of the track, Genie writes;
“This song is about navigating flirtation in modern society. Whether it be understanding the boundaries, signals, whether a person is interested or not. It’s something that we can never be certain of, because, well, we’re not mid readers. Not only that but it also touches on not knowing who should make the first move.”
All three band members are influenced by a variety of musicians, including the likes of Alt-J, Jack Garratt, Janelle Monae, London Grammar, Jungle, Bonobo, Grimes, Charli XCX, Haim, Tim Hecker, Fickle Friends, Imogen Heap, The XX and Chvrches . However, their own sound sits in closer comparison to the likes of Skunk Anansie, Skin, Santigold and Little Dragon .
