Inspired #391 - Lili Caseley

Ticking boxes for fans of Lily Allen and Dominic Fike - Lili Caseley returns with her new track ‘Hotel Du Palais’ featuring Nick Vyner.

Lili Caseley has come a long way since coming out of lockdown. Recent tracks such as Badoom (with over 2 million streams) have cemented her as a real force to be reckoned with in the pop space, not to mention her co-writes with some of the biggest names, including Donae’o. Now, the artist of French-Portuguese heritage shifts her focus towards her new single Hotel Du Palais with Nick Vyner, showing a different side of Caseley’s creativity to the world.

The track was originally written in lockdown, and it wasn’t until management serendipitously put the two artists together did the song manage to get finalised. Hotel Du Palais was bounced to LA and back where the narrative was shaped by Nick’s feature, as if the song was meant to find the pair. The upbeat and energetic number is inspired by artists such as Lily Allen, Ariane Grande and Dominic Fike.

Lili took a moment to talk to us about the inspirations behind her music.

Who are your top three musical inspirations and why?
Stromae, Billie Holiday, Nelly Furtado

Stromae for his incredible storytelling through his lyrics and genre bending visuals.
Billie Holiday tapped into her pain and suffering in her music and through her voice you could feel every single emotion she felt. She sang from the soul.
Nelly Furtado is Portuguese so I feel that relation to her and her music was the perfect mixture of soul, hip hop and pop.

Is there a certain film that inspires you and why?
Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind. I wrote a song about it called ‘doctor’ : “give me my eternal sunshine of my spotless mind, leave it all behind”. Quirky Romantic Comedy I think might be my favourite genre. When it is a bit absurd.

What city do you find the most inspiring and why?
Lisbon… because my family is from there, my grandfather was born at the Sao Jorge Castle and my great grandfather was a musician there. It is a city full of peace where I have fallen in love and eaten the best fish.

Who is the most inspiring person to you and why?
My mother, my sister, my grandmother, my great grandmother…all intelligent, kind independent women who give a lot to others.

What were your inspirations when writing your new track?
Nostalgia, a longing for a moment in time you can never get back to but still wanting to return. Finding your way back in time through a song or a piece of art. Like we do in the video.

How would you like to inspire people?
Through truth, love and kindness :D and to provide a nice distraction sometimes too.
