Circa Waves - ‘Carry You Home’
Circa Waves deliver crowd-surfing, festival ready pop-rock on new single 'Carry You Home'.
Since breaking onto the Liverpool music scene in 2014 and following their smash 2015 album ‘Young Chasers’ featuring standout track ’T-Shirt Weather’, Circa Waves have been an indie-pop force to be reckoned with.
The four-piece, fronted by singer-songwriter Kieran Shudall, are veterans of the classic indie anthem. They’re undeniably giants of the genre who never get old but never stay the same either–as proved by the redirection of 2020’s contemplative rock album ’Sad Happy’.
The band’s most recent single, ‘Carry You Home’, however, is a Circa Waves track through and through. Opening with soaring, glittering instrumentals, it begins with a bird’s eye view of “a light in a tunnel”, “hearts in trouble”, and “two minds in a bubble” before diving with a headrush into the intimate, sincere declarations of a vulnerable lover.
As acknowledged in the titular track on 'Sad Happy', emotions are multifaceted. In ‘Carry You Home’, Circa Waves occupy a deliriously vivid middle space between insecurity about not being enough and between a celebration of the sacrificial purity of their love. “I’m supposed to be superman / But I just cried in my hands” is pumped with as nearly as much adrenaline of feeling as “I would run for you / Even if I broke in two / I would die for you / Just to try and carry you home”.
Dialling back on production during the track’s bridge gives Shudall’s croon of “I just wanna be the best I can / But I’m not sure if I’m the man / You sold” a more wavering, confidential tone. But this minimising of production is only temporary, and when the chorus kicks back in, it’s with more triumph and energy than ever.
‘Carry You Home’ is a track that demands a live show experience. It's easy to imagine it being one of the band's future crowd-favourite numbers–tapping as deftly as it does into the well-trod terrain of anthemic choruses that never sacrifice substance for catchiness.
'Carry You Home' is just the latest release from Circa Waves' highly anticipated fifth album 'Never Going Under', which comes out on January 13th. Shudall has already teased a series of album launch gigs, sharing: “We really wanna see you all up close for some really, really small intimate rock n roll shows. It’s gonna get sweaty and loud. See you down the front!”
Circa Waves have already announced a string of album launch shows across the US. Keep your eyes peeled for upcoming dates in the UK and Europe!
