Sound City 2022: Top Five Sets To Check Out This Weekend

Festival season is quickly making it’s 2022 grand return - with Sound City kicking it all off in Liverpool this weekend.

With an incredible reputation for being the first place to discover the artists destined to soundtrack the summer ahead, this year’s Sound City is packed with artists at the top of their game and those looking to break through over an unforgettable summer. Whether its debut festival headline performances from the universally acclaimed Self Esteem and the chart-topping The Lathums, to huge sets from Yard Act, Alfie Templeman, Mae Muller, Baby Queen, Matt Maltese, Crawlers, Brooke Combe, Tim Burgess, The Reytons, TV Priest, Abby Roberts, Matilda Mann, Daisy Brain, Abbie Ozard, Grandmas House and Rianne Downey amongst many many more! With special stage takeovers from Bella Union (celebrating its 25th Anniversary with a special show at the festival), Jack Saunders’ Hopscotch and more - it sets Sound City apart as the welcome gate to the summer to come and a pointer to the best in new music as it’s always been for the past 15 years!

We give you our top five sets to check out this weekend.

Yard Act
Satruday / 6:30pm - Arts Club Theatre
Island Records latest post-punk superstars - sure to be the set of the weekend.
Yard Act have built a sound that speaks inherently to the current cultural and political moment in the UK, and yet ties together observations from all walks of modern British life – the small-town bloke in the local pub, the anti-capitalist stuck at a desk job, the tired activist in all of us torn between easy complicity and the desire to fight.
With an incredibly sold out UK tour recent and a series of wild sets from SXSW in the States - Yard Act will sure be the show to squeeze into this weekend at Sound City.

Cody Frost
Saturday / 3:40pm - Zanzibar
Authentic British-pop at it’s best.
Originally from Burnley, Cody started busking in Manchester and sharing covers of songs from Frank Ocean, Nirvana, and Slipknot on YouTube. Her career didn’t begin to take shape until she was diagnosed with ADHD, which meant she could finally manage the condition and find a new focus. Her creativity also extends into her work as an accomplished tattooist and artist - she recently had the opportunity to tattoo her own lyrics on a fan.

Alfie Templeman
Sunday / 6:30pm - Arts Club Theatre
The indie pop darling prince is ready to take over the world with an exploding set at Sound City. With his debut album due out later next month, the Arts Club Theatre is sure to lose it’s roof during his live set.

Self Esteem
Sunday / 10pm - Arts Club Theatre
With a huge headline tour coming next year, Self Esteem will bring the festival to a close as the Sunday night headliner. With a number one album under her belt and a series of sold out shows over the past few months. This festival set is sure to be something magical.

Abbie Ozard
Sunday / 21:30. - The Jararanda
Abbie emerged initially into a supportive scene with contemporaries Lauran Hibberd, Whenyoung and Phoebe Green, touring with the former two at personal request. From here, a string of acclaimed singles and EPs, as well as a growing live presence, has seen support from the likes of Jack Saunders and Huw Stephens have consistently backed across BBC Radio 1, with Abbie McCarthy and Chris Hawkins offering spins at BBC 6 Music.

Sound City will take place on Saturday 30th April and Sunday 1st May at various venues around Liverpool.
