Introducing #223 - CAAMP
Let us introduce you to American band CAAMP - who are set to release their new album ‘Lavender Days’ via Mom + Pop.
Lavender Days was produced by Caamp and Beatriz Artola (Fleet Foxes, Adele, Sharon Van Etten). Initial recording took place at Sylvan Esso’s American studio in February 2021, where together Caamp workshopped the songs and began principal tracking, bringing in friends including Nathaniel Rateliff and Waxahatchee’s Katie Crutchfield to contribute vocals. When it was time to finish the record, the boys headed home to Ohio to wrap up, with help from Artola, the way they always have, in their humble home studio - just them and their instruments in their hometown.
They took a moment to talk to us about their music.
Hey the CAAMP, how are you? So your new tracks ‘Believe' and 'Apple Tree Blues' are out now, can you tell us what they're about?
(From Taylor) - Our song 'Believe' is about sticking through the tough and heading for the sun. 'I believe in you baby' - a mantra for yourself and for the world. Apple Tree Blues is just about the way life winds and how we over think everything, especially vulnerability with our hearts.
Along with the track, you have announced your new album ‘Lavender Days’ - when can we get to listen to it? And what are the key themes on the album?
(From Taylor) - Lavender Days is out June 24th! This album centres on a few themes...loss, and transformation, patience and growth. There will be times you look back on and smile about, and times you look back on with tears still fresh. And there will be the times that give you both, and all shades between - your Lavender Days. Not the glory days, the golden days, or the worst days of your life - but the days where you waited, you were patient - you learned, and you grew. The days sewn in your heart, that make you who you are
Where are you based and what are your favourite things to do there?
(From Evan) - Favourite thing to do when I’m home is have a cup of coffee and watch birds in my backyard. And go see buds' bands play!
How would you describe your sound to someone who has never listened to your music before?
It's a bit of a mix - a little bit of West Coast folk, some Midwestern Americana, and indie rock.
What are the key influences when it comes to your music?
Other music/nostalgia/traveling and meeting people.
Lavender Days is out 24th June on Mom+Pop and is available for pre-order here. Caamp will play Manchester and London on tour later this year with tickets available now.
