Inspired #366 - Noah Slee

Noah Slee has just released a piece of R&B goodness with new album ‘it takes a village’.

Slee is an artist for whom the term 'community' is a defining factor in his creativity. Be it in the relatively recent sense of belonging found as part of the free-thinking, queer community of Berlin, the community he is forever tied to through his Tongan roots, or the artist community he cultivates through running grass-roots events which strives to support home-grown Berlin talent. His album 'it takes a village’ is aptly named, given it returns back to Noah’s innate bond to human community and in his words is is a celebration of the Berlin community he is very much a part of - from its creative scene to its open-armedness to the LGBTQ+ community.

He took a moment to talk to us about the inspirations behind his music.

Who are your top three musical inspirations and why?
Prince, Bob Marley and Nina Simone.

Is there a certain film that inspires you and why?The most recent film that has been inspiring to me is new Andy Warhol documentary on netflix. His story is very inspiring and I think his ability to recreate and be inspired by new artist and underground art resonates with me.

What city do you find the most inspiring and why?
Limoux in the Sout of France... Ive been spending time there with family and friends and its just really peaceful and lussssh... there is also a really inspiring studio called LiMusic where I have been creating...

Who is the most inspiring person to you and why?
Both my mum and dad.. they balance each other out and they are still very much in love its gross... Im grateful for them they have achieved so much and still remain very humble and always show love.

What were your inspirations when writing your new track?
I wanted to write a song that was encouraging people to own and be proud of who you are and where your from. Especially for my indigenous and islander folks out there..

How would you like to inspire people?
As long as I inspire myself and continue to grow as a human that will hopefully inspire others. I also want to grow and challenge myself as an artist.
