Inspired #376 - DORA

Eighteen year old Madrid newcomer DORA has just released her new single ‘Te Vas’ - which was produced by Pional - who has worked with the likes of The xx, John Talabot and Empress Of.

The new single follows recent support dates with Noga Erez, appearances at The Great Escape Festival and her debut EP 'Sin Prisa No Quiero Morir' released in April earlier this year.

Traversing genres including bolero, UK garage, indie-electronic and electro pop; eloquently moving between English and Spanish language in her thrilling creations, DORA's non-conformist and rebellious spirit shines bright through her art.

New single "Te Vas" references new beginnings, with DORA commenting: "Te Vas is pure pre-summer hedonism. I just finished high school, passed all my exams and in 15 days I'm leaving with my two best friends to explore Europe. This is all real. They are the ones who appear in this wonderful video directed by artist Rafa Castells. This song is my way of celebrating, one cycle closes and another begins, fireworks! But always with one foot in the shade, as I like. Produced by my homie Pional”.

She took a moment to talk to us about the inspirations behind her music.

Who are your top three musical inspirations and why?
My influences depend a lot on the music I listen to. But ever since i was a little girl I looked up to Aretha Franklin and Nina Simone, they made an impact in my singing and introduced me to jazz and soul. I’ve always thought they had such feeling in their voices, something to tell to the world, and for me that's one of the most important features in making music.

Is there a certain film that inspires you and why?
Some of my all time favorite films are Wild At Heart, Cry Baby, Taxi Driver… any Wes Anderson film. Particularly, because of the music.

What city do you find the most inspiring and why?
I’m on a trip through Italy and I’m falling in love with the villages. Especially the coast, they have another rhythm of life. I love imagining each person's day to day, and everything seems so familiar that you feel like you're at home.

Who is the most inspiring person to you and why?
My dad has inspired me throughout my whole life. He has taught me so much about music, art and film. He has been my companion and has protected and guided me in so many aspects, and I am very grateful for all that he has done.

What were your inspirations when writing your new track?
I wanted to relax. I am in a vital moment where I’m closing a lot of cycles and entering a lot of new ones. After my last EP ‘Sin Prisa No Quiero Morir’ I wanted to do something more fresh, easy and to dance with! It’s my time to enjoy.

How would you like to inspire people?
The most important aspect for me as an artist is to be true to myself and to the people that listen to my music. I want them to really feel like whatever I write or include in my songs are me.
