In Conversation With #200 - Tex
Swedish newcomer Tex has just released his self-titled EP along with the video for latest single ‘Sound Of You’.
Artists have often drawn inspiration from a myriad of eclectic sources; filmmakers, painters, and poets but for Swedish newcomer Tex, exploring themes of relationships, heartbreak and love are what fuels his inspiration. Armed with a voice that can turn from spine-tingling depths to a sugary soft falsetto in the span of one musical measure, the singer-songwriter, guitarist and producer today, shares his debut self-titled EP accompanied by a mesmerising video for song ‘Sound Of You’.
He took a moment to discuss with us how the EP came together.
Hey Tex - how are you? So your debut EP is finally here - how does it feel to have it out there in the world?
It feels really great, I’ve been holding on to so much music for a long time, trying to find the courage to share it with people other than my friends. So it’s a big deal. I feel like I can move on now and I’m excited for what comes next.
Where was the EP recorded? Any behind the scenes stories from the creative process you are happy to share with us?
It’s kind of a collection of songs from different eras and they’ve all been recorded in different places between London, Copenhagen and my hometown Malmö. I was moving out of the UK to Copenhagen because of covid but I got stuck in Malmö when the borders closed. So I started working in a kindergarten and they had this really out of tune-missing a string ukulele. I borrowed it and that’s how I began making ‘Uko’.
What are the key themes and influences on the EP?
Love.
Do you have a favorite lyric on the EP? If so, which one and why?
I don’t really think much about the lyrics after I’ve written and recorded them to be completely honest. It’s kind of like ventilating emotions and letting them go. But one that stuck with me is the simple “don’t you cry”. It came from the feeling of beeing really heartbroken over someone but all you get back is pity.
If your EP could be a soundtrack to a film - which one would it be and why?
It would probably be to some romantic film about a love story but I can’t stand those types of movies so I wouldn’t be able to tell you which one.
Now the EP is out there - what next for you?
I’m currently working on my next little thing and I wanna try to keep the ball rolling and release more tunes soon. Getting this first EP out has started a fire in me, so keep your eyes and ears open!
