Baytrees - 'Sunshine'
It feels like summer is already here with Baytrees new release: ‘Sunshine’.
‘Sunshine’ is an example of a song which grabs you from the first beat, melody, synth and guitar riff - Baytrees have ensured that this song has it all. The four-piece, based in Brixton, are a band which transcend genres: ‘Sunshine’ sounds like an 80s dance-bop anthem, with a thundering bassline and smooth, soulful vocals. These different musical elements come together effortlessly, and it is worth listening with high-quality audio in order to fully appreciate how seamless it sounds. The band cite a collective of musical legends as their inspiration - from Michael Jackson to Metronomy - and this versatility can be heard from the keys to the guitar riffs.
In terms of the lyrics, the song is reminiscent of 2000s summer hooks, and is positively nostalgic of having fun in the sun, and letting your worries go. The track is immersive in beat and lyric, and certainly transports you to a big summer party. The highlight of the lyrical elements to the track is definitely the harmonies that are incorporated. These harmonies are warm and consistent throughout the track, and show the band's vocal range. The beats and synth in the song are so professionally executed and cohesive, so it is fantastic that the band are doing the same when it comes to their vocal layers.
The quartet have been collaborating since 2018, and have released a handful of bass-heavy, soulful tracks which centre on romance. ‘Sunshine’ incorporates this base-intensive style, but employs a lighter and carefree message. The Baytrees boys are building a steady collection of multifaceted singles, yet are carving out their individual sound.
If you liked this track and are inclined to check out the band, Baytrees are performing their new single at the Bread and Roses in Clapham on March 25, 2023.
