Dealing with early breakups and growing up in the capital, KIDS’ music tells the story of band leaders Beau Blaise and Alex Harvey, life-long friends who have written their debut EP ‘Love and the City 1’ out of their own stories of growth.

They took a moment to talk to us about the inspirations behinds their music.

Who are your top three musical inspirations and why?
Damon Albarn - for staying relevant and completely stylistically free for over 30 years.
Mike Skinner - for showing the beauty in imperfection better than anyone else.
Kanye West - for having the longest run of game changing albums in my lifetime.

Is there a certain film that inspires you and why?
I love gritty British films, Shane Meadows movies, Lock stock etc. The film Jawbone by Thomas Q. Napper was a real inspiration when making the video for our song Worthy. Our director Jordan Rawi showed it to me, it’s beautifully shot and it’s got the best shot boxing sequence in a film I’ve seen. It tackles a lot of the same topics as the song, how men can negatively tackle their issues and fighting your demons. I did boxing training for it and was trying to channel some of Johnny Harris’s performance in the video.

What city do you find the most inspiring and why?
London, Born and bred. It’s harsh but it’s got everything. It's my favourite city and one of the main inspirations for our first two EPs.

Who is the most inspiring person to you and why?
My mum for making me the person I am and showing me the meaning of hard work.

What were your inspirations when writing your new EP?
The city of London, first loves and growth.

How would you like to inspire people?
Musically? To be free. Make what you love, don’t be afraid to jump style and always be true to yourself, even if you’re vulnerable.
