Brightshade - 'Inner Void'
Brightshade explores the trauma within with their latest single “Inner Void”.
New UK Cine/Nu/Alt Metal band Brightshade just released their fourth single, “Inner Void” on August 28th, 2026 via UK label Year Of The Rat Records.
The band launched in 2026, with their first EP, Believe, released on July 10th followed by single “Lost and Haunted”, released on April 10th. Now, they release their fourth single “Inner Void” which explores trauma, pain, and loss, and how we cope with it.
The band states on Bandcamp that they are “building a world here, making music for us, and for the angry, the confused, and the forgotten.” Their lyrics are real, the instruments have meaning, and their melodic hooks invite fans to do more than just listen, they experience the angst of Brightshade.
“Inner Void” starts with lyrics “I’ve seen it, I’ve seen it all / You’re the night that’s crawling to me” in a far off echo. A drum solo then pulls the band into a heavier sound with Vocalist Dan Hill repeating the lyrics with a louder rasped tension. His voice is dark, yet he sings in a higher vocal range as he calls out for help with lyrics “I’ve seen it all” and “I forgot how to heal”.
Hill shared ““Inner Void” explores the trauma we face and the relationship we have with it. Pain and loss teaches us life lessons, helps us grow and hardens our skin. It’s about frustrations and trying to find meaning to pain or a silver lining, but nothing is there. We all share experiences that leave us damaged, with no positive outcome. After the loss of a family member, hoping for these experiences to make me a better person, but I am ultimately confronted with the reality that pain doesn't always make us stronger.”
Throughout the song, the lead guitar plays high pitched notes, aiding to Hill’s pleading and the haunting feel to the song. The two fit perfectly together, almost as if they are one, creating a perfect cry for help, especially with the last wail of the guitar.
The music video consists of Brightshade playing their instruments with a purple haze overtone, a darkness achieved by the use of a vignette, pairing up perfectly with lyrics “you’re the night that’s crawling to me”, and light streaks that could be seen as sparks of hope.
“Inner Void” is a must listen if you have ever felt lost and alone.
