Plain White T's - 'Happy'

Big hitters Plain White T’s release the perfectly titled ‘Happy’.

Following the recent success of the excellent single ‘Spaghetti Tattoo’, the group have given fans even more to rave about with the latest track ‘Happy’.

The title couldn’t fit the feel of the song more, it has a real feel of optimism, created by the upbeat instrumentation and inspiring vocal performance of frontman Tom Higgenson. “What’s the point in being sad?” The chorus of the track makes it the perfect tune for the summer season, as it offers listeners a breath of fresh air.

Lead singer Higgenson has taken a particular liking to the group’s latest release, saying: “The thing I love about ‘Happy’ is that the lyrics are so optimistic and fun, but the chords and the melodies are so melancholy […] It’s like, ‘Ok, I know I’m going through something right now, but I just wanna get over it already and feel good again! Like I know things are gonna get better, but I’m not quite there yet.”

This analysis of the track makes it even more interesting. Listeners can really get behind this message. We’ve all been there, knowing it’ll get better, but we aren’t quite there yet. The latest single by the group could just be the transport that takes listeners to a happier place.

As well as brilliant lyricism, the track provides a great instrumental performance. The gentle yet constant drumming and electronic sound makes for a track that is undeniable in its catchiness. Overlapping the drumming is brilliantly moving acoustic guitar sounds. The group demonstrate their tightness in the new track, since there’s a lot going on and they make it seem effortless.

The track is sure to be a hit with fans, and it really feels like it could be the anthem of the summer. It feels as though it’s made for drives in the sun, offering listeners hope that happier times are here, or on their way!
