Warmduscher - 'Top Shelf'

Warmduscher share final track and music video ahead of newest album.

“Top Shelf” is the latest single by the post-punk connoisseurs Warmduscher, which narrates a young woman’s journey through the urban landscape. Their fifth full-length studio album Too Cold To Hold is out on the 15th, featuring guest appearances from the likes of Irvine Welsh, Lianne La Havas, Jeshi, CouCou Chloe and Confidence Man’s Janet Planet.

Composed of Clams Baker Jr.,  Benjamin Roman Hopcraft, Adam J. Harmer, Marley Mackey, Quinn Whalley and Bleu Ottis Wright, Warmduscher have slowly taking over the scene over the past decade with records such as Whale City and Tainted Lunch earning them high appraise from the Radio 6 crowd.

“Top Shelf” debuted on Lauren Laverne’s 6 music show, and the band was in session for Riley & Coe on 6 Music the previous week to play some songs off this newest record.

The music video, directed by GODFEARING, takes us on a journey through the life of this young woman in the modern urban world. Clams Jr. went into further detail on the topic explored in this song and music video:

We encounter a young woman navigating the perilous mating grounds of the urban landscape. Like a rare wildebeest in the throes of seasonal heat, she has just split from her partner and seeks solace in the embrace of a new mate. Yet, the primal pull of her former lover proves too potent to resist. Drawn back into his familiar grasp, they engage in a charged and illicit encounter, their movements intense, magnetic—every look and touch part of an age-old courtship ritual, teetering on the edge of instinct and temptation. The beat of the track underscores this delicate, wild dance, a soundtrack to the raw pull of desire at its most unbridled”.

The track has an exceptional groove to it, a driving drum beat which launches the song forward as Clams Jr.’s fuzzy vocals fill the sound with their intriguing storytelling. This is only improved on as the song progresses, with intriguing guitar and synth riffs creating an intoxicating aesthetic that is so familiar to fans of Warmduscher.

As they take on their latest UK tour to promote Too Cold To Hold, plenty of shows remain as they head up north to Glasgow and Dublin before making their way down to play in Europe. Catch their latest studio album out now via Strap Originals.
