Charly Bliss - 'Calling You Out'

Charly Bliss are back on tour but they’re ‘Calling you Out’ with their latest release first!

It’s going to be an exciting few months for Charly Bliss! As they prepare to head out on the road in the autumn and a new album in August, they have dropped their single ‘Calling you Out’ and its already become stuck in everyone's head. The track is joined by a fantastic music video directed by Adam Kotodny which takes inspiration from the most interesting and unlikely of places, paying homage to both the Beastie Boys and Wong Kar-Wai’s 1995 film ‘Fallen Angels’. Its the second single to be released in anticipation of the new album, which is entitled ‘FOREVER’. Last month we were gifted with the sharing of lead single ‘Nineteen’ which already has garnered nearly 100,000 Spotify streams and has been hyped up by artists like Jack Antonoff.

‘Calling you Out’ as a track speaks to the band's decision to just have fun with their sound. As a part of their announcing the new album, their newest work since 2019, they spoke about their excitement about jumping headfirst into a fizzier, sweeter and more pop style and with this release, they cannot stop talking about how joyous the whole songwriting and recording process has been.

“Fun is our natural state,” says guitarist Spencer Fox. “No one has more fun than us and no one loves each other more than us.”

Made up of lifelong friends and siblings, its no wonder everything this band does is rooted in having a good time. The synergy between the members and their connection is palpable both on stage and through their songwriting and with an emotive and personal track like ‘Calling you Out’, we see and hear just how deep that bond goes. Lead singer Eva Hendricks explained that the song follows her habit of self-sabotaging relationships and the ways she feels the need to find the catch or final straw in a situation as a way to protect herself. Though the band’s pop smarts and ability to write a fantastically catchy tune are demonstrated in bounds on this track, at its core it's a consideration of one’s own personality and the temptation to veer towards the hell you know versus the potential heavens you don’t.

The tour, which unfortunately at the moment is limited to North America, kicks off in Washington DC on September 5th. For those of us who cannot make the pilgrimage, it's not too long a wait till the new album comes out. All twelve track titles have been released and there's still enough time for a potential third single to be released in anticipation. Its clear to us that it's going to be an exciting few months for Charly Bliss and we cannot wait to see what they do next.
