We Are All Fossils - 'Rapture'
Musical project We Are All Fossils, led by South African-born Deist Oelofse, releases new single, ‘Rapture’, out 24th January via Mahogany Songs.
The track is cloaked in the smell of sea air and nostalgia. It combines contemporary folk sounds with an ambient feel, which has become We Are All Fossils’ distinct sound, born out of Oelofse’s time spent in the Lake District. Natural imagery is scattered throughout the song; his pleading for sunlight in an effort to not become a shadow is sung over layered acoustic guitars and soft piano, emulating the rise and fall of the tide. Not only inspired by the rolling hills of England but also the blistering shores of South Africa, We Are All Fossils balances the push and pull of life as the fight between stillness and change settles in for the artist. Oelofse spoke on the track, saying: “‘Rapture’ captures the journey of breaking free from numbness and embracing change.”
‘Rapture’ builds on the emotional depth that has become synonymous with Oelofse’s work. The song’s vivid imagery and dynamic instrumentation evoke a sense of quiet triumph, reflecting nature’s ability to adapt and endure. These themes are brought to life through his careful layering of acoustic textures, inviting listeners to share in his introspective journey. Having recently performed at the iconic BBC Maida Vale Studios, We Are All Fossils continues to cement a reputation for delivering heartfelt, atmospheric music. With ‘Rapture’, Oelofse proves once again why he is an artist to watch, creating songs that linger long after the final note fades.
