Single Review: Cape Cub - 'Flowers'
Championed by a multitude of tastemaker sites and BBC Radio 1, Closer and 6am EPs were deeply influenced by the feelings Chad Male had heading into his twenties and his personal attachment to his hometown of Marske-by-the-Sea on the North East coast.
‘Flowers’ marks as Cape Cub’s first release of 2017, a song about overcoming fear through the strong bond of a loving relationship. Building on serene indie-pop thrills, Chad’s sonic mark shines clear from the wondrous escalation the track takes on. This angelic arrangement ponders with delicate piano textures; subtle acoustic layers and manipulated vocal hooks that only heighten the dramatic lyrics.
‘Flowers’ embraces clear and intimate songwriting and its clear to hear Chad’s appreciation for modern pop and indie music. Chad Male has delved into new depths, exploring a pop-hook driven arrangement but once again bears as much personality and soul from his past releases.
You can catch Cape Cub at Twisterella Festival, alongside British/Icelandic trio Dream Wife and pop group Outlya on the 7th October.
