Single Review: DMA's - 'For Now'
DMA’s have released new single ‘For Now’ ahead of their new album, which is set to be released on 28th April.
The trio from Sydney, Australia have created quite the excitement in the last couple of years, releasing music only to be described as a renewed Britpop. The band are so close to releasing their highly anticipated second album, which is a follow up to their 2016 debut, Hills End.
New single ‘For Now’ is exactly what we’ve been waiting for! DMA’s are known for having such strong British influences, but this song sees them being more enhanced, as if they have reinvented the Britpop and Madchester genre for the modern day. The sounds of Ian Brown, Tim Burgess and the Gallagher brothers are obvious influences in this single, but they have been more daring and really made it their own with an atmospheric track like ‘For Now’.
This single is faster paced than previous releases, with a heavier guitar sound and bassline that is evident throughout. The melancholic voice of singer Tommy O’Dell seems even more gritty than on their debut, but we can tell he is singing with heart and certainty. Previously releasing two other epic singles, both of which are to be featured on the album, we are sure in for a treat! With all of this in mind, it only makes us more eager to hear the full album, which shares the name ‘For Now’.
It’s obvious through hearing this song that DMA’s have grown so much as a band in the short space of time between albums, progressing within their 90s vibes and smashing it in the UK with a headline slot at this year’s Liverpool Sound City. We’re looking forward to the release of their second album and can’t wait to catch them on their UK tour, which starts next month.
